Construction equipment giant Volvo CE has announced that it will relocate the company’s headquarters from Brussels, Belgium back to the southern Swedish city of Gothenburg, the group’s home city.
The Swedish company, which had moved its global headquarters to Brussels in the 1980s, said in a statement that the relocation back to its home country will facilitate closer cooperation with Volvo’s other businesses and allow for better usage of competence and resources of the group as a whole.
Sweden is home to approximately 4,000 Volvo CE employees and where, according to Martin Weissburg, president of Volvo CE and member of the Volvo Group’s executive board, some of the company’s largest manufacturing, commercial and technology sites are still located.
“Our Brussels location has served us well since the office opened in the 1980s and this move comes at the right time for Volvo CE as we continue to adapt our company to changing global business dynamics,” Weissburg said.
“It allows us to be physically closer to the other Volvo business areas and it will facilitate closer cooperation and sharing of best practices.”
The Volvo CE headquarters will become operational in Gothenburg in the third quarter of this year, the statement added.
