Middle East and Africa solar technology tenders in Q1 2021 has seen 104 tenders announced, marking a 121% over the last four-quarter average of 47, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.
The proportion of solar technology tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows, the report says.
- Project Implementation with 71 tenders and a 68.3% share
- Supply & Erection: 22 tenders and a 21.2% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 4.8% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four tenders and a 3.8% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 1.9% share.
Kenya was the top country in the Middle East and Africa region for solar technology tenders recorded in Q1 2021 with 12 tenders and an 11.5% share, followed by Yemen with 12 tenders and an 11.5% share and Somalia with 11 tenders and a 10.6% share.
The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (South Africa) and Government of South Africa: 2,600MW from one tender
- Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Morocco): 400MW from one tender
Germany Trade and Invest (Germany): 30.22MW capacity from two tenders
