Global IoT solutions provider Trackunit has launched a 5G-ready, battery-powered device to connect and monitor non-powered construction equipment and accessories.
According to the company the new Spot 2 device offers increased connectivity and visibility to the full fleet, significantly reducing operating costs and increasing the utilisation of each machine in real-time. Equipment and site managers can quickly locate equipment at depots and worksites using the Trackunit platform.
Among Spot 2’s features, operators can set tracking frequency while the new power efficient design is said to have doubled estimated battery life allowing 4,000 message transmissions. When configured for two messages per day, the batteries are expected to last for at least five years.
“This is very much in alignment with the Eliminate Downtime movement as it cuts down on inefficiency and contributes to making construction a better, more useful industry,” said Lærke Ullerup, Chief Marketing Officer in a statement.
Dave Swan, Senior Vice President Products added: “We see Spot as a natural complement to Trackunit’s Raw (Cellular) and Kin (Bluetooth) products, providing a capability in between the two. With Spot, users don’t have to guess and search for equipment, and will always be the first to know if something moves without permission, helping reduce theft. Using a cellular connection, Spot pinpoints a precise GPS location with an ‘instant on’, 1-minute install with no machine downtime.
The hardware also allows users to take advantage of the latest technology such as LTE-M1 / NB-IoT network, bluetooth 5.2, new industrial class mechanical design and light sensor for smart activation. Trackunit will be showcasing Spot 2 at Bauma, in Munich, from October 24-30.
