Wirtgen has launched a new automation technology designed to improve efficiency in the areas of soil stabilisation and cold recycling.
By enabling precise, automatic steering, its new AutoTrac is said to increase process efficiency among Wirtgen wheeled recyclers resulting in high degrees of environmental compatibility.
According to Wirtgen, AutoTrac steers the machine precisely based on established parameters within centimetres whilst it allows consistent utilisation of the machine’s ideal working width.
AutoTrac relies, among other things, on various global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) for precise determination of the machine’s position and direction of travel. The system is operated from an additional control panel that also enables the operator to view information about the position of the machine and previously completed strips.
Soil stabilizers are used to prepare road beds by binding soil particles together and as a result improving water resistance or making compaction easier to perform.
In the case of cold recycling with WR series machines, damaged asphalt layers are milled off and granulated in a single operation, re-bound by the addition of binding agents and water and then repaved. In both cases, the new base layers produced on site allow for improved load bearing capacity.
