A new sustainable chapter has begun for the port in Ardersier near Inverness, as BAUER Technologies Ltd., a subsidiary of BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH, received approval from Haventus to embark on a significant revitalisation project. Work on this transformative initiative began in May.
Impressive Dimensions
BAUER Technologies’ responsibilities include the installation of diaphragm walls for the front quay walls and the construction of the rear anchor walls, both critical for the port’s efficiency and safety. The front quay wall boasts impressive dimensions, with a depth of up to 42 meters and a width ranging from 1,200 mm to 1,500 mm. The parallel anchor wall will have a depth of up to 27 meters and a width of 1,000 mm. The project employs two Bauer MC 86 and MC 96 duty-cycle cranes with grab units. This phase of the work is scheduled for completion in December 2024.
A Hub for Green Energy
The transformation of Ardersier Port is pivotal for the local economy and the broader push for sustainable energy. Under the guidance of Haventus, the former oil industry site at Moray Firth is being developed into a state-of-the-art facility for the assembly, manufacture, maintenance, and transport of offshore wind turbines and equipment. This project is expected to create hundreds of jobs, both directly and indirectly, bolstering the local economy.
The port’s revitalisation will significantly contribute to Scotland’s goal of generating 50 GW of electricity from offshore wind power by 2030. With its strategic position and enhanced operational capabilities, Ardersier Port is set to become a crucial hub for offshore wind energy in Scotland.
“The transformation of Ardersier Port is a groundbreaking project both in terms of the scope and when it comes to sustainability,” remarked Paul Doyle and John Theos, Managing Directors of BAUER Technologies, in unison. “We are proud to be part of this important project and look forward to helping shape the future of the port.”
The revitalization of Ardersier Port marks a significant step forward in Scotland’s green energy ambitions, with BAUER Technologies playing a central role in this transformative project. As work progresses, the port is poised to become a cornerstone of the offshore wind energy sector, driving economic growth and sustainable development in the region.
