Bobcat held a ceremonial groundbreaking on 13th June 2024 for its new 280-million EUR manufacturing facility in Mexico.
The event marked a significant expansion of the newly crowned Construction Machinery ME Manufacturer of the Year’s global footprint, took place in the Salinas Victoria municipality, outside of Monterrey in the state of Nuevo Leon, said the firm.
The 65,000 sqm facility is expected to be operational by 2026 and aims to increase Bobcat’s production capacity and manufacturing capabilities for select compact track and skid-steer loader models. This new location will complement Bobcat’s existing production sites in the U.S. and the Czech Republic, where production will continue alongside the new facility.
“We have seen tremendous growth across our business, and this new facility will support our long-range plans for increased production to meet customer demand,” said Scott Park, Doosan Bobcat CEO and Vice Chairman. “This groundbreaking represents our commitment to our customers—present and future—who are ready to accomplish more with our equipment.”
The new manufacturing facility will seek LEED Silver certification, emphasizing Bobcat’s commitment to sustainability. It will feature state-of-the-art technology focusing on quality, precision, and energy efficiency.
The design team for the project includes U.S.-based Shultz + Associates Architects and Mexico-based GP Construcción, a division of Grupo GP, as the construction manager. Shultz + Associates Architects has a long-standing partnership with Bobcat, designing many of its North American locations, while GP Construcción specializes in industrial parks and facilities across Mexico.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Bobcat representatives, elected officials, and area business leaders, underscoring the local and regional significance of the project. The new factory is expected to create between 600 to 800 jobs in the region, bolstering the local economy and providing new opportunities for the skilled workforce in Salinas Victoria.
“We look forward to growing our manufacturing footprint in the Salinas Victoria community for its excellent industrial sector, skilled workforce, and strong business environment,” said Mike Ballweber, Doosan Bobcat North America President. “Our investment here demonstrates our confidence in this manufacturing environment and thriving local economy.”
The announcement of the new facility in 2023 has been followed by a swift move to construction, reflecting Bobcat’s proactive approach to meeting increasing global demand for its equipment. The new plant will play a critical role in Bobcat’s strategy to expand its market presence and production capabilities.
The new facility is poised to become a cornerstone of Bobcat’s global manufacturing operations, driving innovation and efficiency while supporting the company’s growth and long-term success.
