CDE, a leader in sand and aggregate wet processing solutions for the waste recycling and natural minerals processing sectors, has introduced its new ProPress high-performance filter press at Hillhead. This addition enhances CDE’s advanced water management and recycling systems.
Meeting Evolving Industry Needs
The ProPress is designed to meet the evolving needs of the construction and demolition (C&D) waste recycling, quarrying, and mining sectors. It incorporates the latest technological advancements to improve operational efficiency and maximize water recovery.
Key Benefits of ProPress
The ProPress, featuring patent-pending technology, offers a flexible design and variable throughput, allowing it to be scaled to fit any operation’s processing volume. Unlike traditional filter presses, it is dual feed, meaning sludge is fed from both sides, improving efficiency and reducing cycle times. Optimized sludge feed pressure enhances dewatering speed, increasing overall throughput. An overhead beam design adds reliability by reducing stress and enhancing durability.
The ProPress has larger plates (2.5m x 2m) which increase chamber volume and reduce the number of plates needed, maximizing capacity on a smaller footprint and improving mechanical cycle times. Integrated plate-shaking technology minimizes filter cake build-up, reducing the need for manual intervention. Maintenance is facilitated by an access walkway and flush-mounted drip trays, providing a secure platform for operators.
An innovative, multifunctional robot supports the smart design, handling plate opening, plate shaking, cloth washing, plate winch, and the maintenance platform.
Global Availability and Efficient Commissioning
The ProPress is available in various sizes to suit different markets and applications worldwide. It is largely pre-assembled to expedite commissioning, allowing operators to start operations quickly and achieve a fast return on investment.
ProPress Process
During material washing and grading, water accumulates silt and residues to form sludge. This sludge is pumped under high pressure into the ProPress, where a sequence of plates forms chambers. As sludge is pumped through, solid materials build within the chambers, creating a dewatered filter cake. This process maximizes water recycling and produces a by-product useful for multiple applications.
The ProPress enables up to 95% of process water to be recycled for immediate reuse in wash plants, reducing waste disposal fees by recovering a filter cake product suitable for pipe bedding and landfill capping. This eliminates the need for settling ponds, which require significant maintenance, labor, and costs.
Engineering Excellence
Darren Eastwood, CDE’s Business Development Director, said: “Tackling the most challenging materials is our expertise. We’ve poured over 30 years of engineering excellence into the development of the ProPress. We’ve listened to and worked alongside our customers around the globe to design a solution that is adaptable to their needs, be they in the waste recycling or natural minerals processing sectors.
“Those needs were clear: sustainable water management was key to minimize fresh water dependency and maximize water recycling, all while improving processing capacity, reducing operating costs, and minimizing maintenance downtime. The ProPress is our response to all of this and more and it is already delivering for our customers. By the end of the year, the ProPress will be found on eight plants across three regions, processing around 1000tph of material.
“Our most significant product launch in recent years, the ProPress really encapsulates CDE’s purpose: to create our best world, a ton at a time. It represents a constant push for improvement to make our equipment, our customers’ operations, and the sectors we operate in more efficient and less wasteful. We’re very pleased to finally bring this latest innovation to the wider market to help maximize the availability of our natural resources and reduce the industry’s waste burden.”
