Mike Barton, Managing Director of B&B Attachments, received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the UKMHA Awards held on September 14th at the Hilton Metropole.
The UKMHA Awards, named after Archimedes — the father of engineering — celebrate outstanding contributions to the industry. The Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor given, acknowledging individuals who have significantly impacted the material handling landscape.
Barton’s career in the industry spans nearly six decades, beginning at the age of 16 as an apprentice with Lansing Bagnall. Over five years, he honed his skills in product design, development, and manufacture, eventually specializing in specifying trucks and attachments. In 1981, he co-founded B&B Attachments, transforming the company into one of the UK’s foremost independent suppliers of forklift truck attachments.
Throughout his career, Barton has been a key figure in addressing complex material handling challenges, providing innovative solutions for a wide range of applications—from handling specialized food products to supporting the construction of iconic structures like the London Velodrome.
Upon receiving the award, Barton remarked, “I am truly humbled and honored. The industry has fascinated me since I was a boy, and I’ve been fortunate to work alongside many experts, learning and growing at every opportunity.”
With a remarkable ability to build networks and inspire those around him, Barton continues to be committed to the advancement of the material handling industry. His dedication to professional growth and innovation remains a driving force in his work.
