Euro Auctions in Abu Dhabi continues to go from strength to strength, with the most recent auction on 7th April recording a 35% increase in sales compared to the previous event in December 2024. A total of 60 vendors from 12 countries participated, offering over 350 lots for sale. The average lot price was $16,856, which was an impressive 50% increase on the average lot value from the December sale, demonstrating strong regional appetite for larger machinery and equipment.
The hammer total for the sale was $5,714,030, with a floor total on the day of the auction of $3.86 million, with an additional $1.84 million transacted online via the Euro Auctions internet bidding platform. This clearly illustrates that Euro Auctions Abu Dhabi is attracting a growing live audience with each event. Unlike other Euro Auctions sales globally, where online bidding accounts for approximately 80% of all transactions, buyers in the Middle East continue to favour viewing equipment in person before bidding live on site.
In total, 471 customers registered to bid at this sale, with 319 bidders pre-approved. This means 67% of those purchasing were regular, returning customers—highlighting the loyalty Euro Auctions enjoys in the region. First-time registrations made up 27% of all bidders, an increase on previous sales, and a clear indication that new buyers are being drawn in by the Euro Auctions offering.
A key benefit of the Abu Dhabi site is that it operates as a customs-bonded area, meaning vendors only pay tax on the sale of goods, rather than when goods are deposited at the Euro Auctions yard.
The top five successful buyer countries were the UAE, Libya, the UK, Uganda, and Saudi Arabia, with 85% of all sales going to buyers in the Middle East.
Vendors came from across the Gulf, India, China, Africa, and East Asia. While online bidding remains strong across all Euro Auctions sales, Middle Eastern buyers still show a marked preference for attending in person, with 53% choosing to bid live onsite, and notably, first-time buyer registrations increased by 20%.
Richard Sweatt, General Manager, Euro Auctions Middle East & Asia, comments:
“The atmosphere at our most recent Abu Dhabi sale was fantastic, exactly how a good sale should feel. There was energy and buzz throughout the day. Buyers and sellers alike were pleased, and we had a strong crowd bidding live on site, most of whom were based in Abu Dhabi.”
“The rolling stock on offer was of exceptional quality, with many large-ticket items either unused or with low hours and in outstanding condition. This certainly pleased the crowd, and we are increasingly seeing more and more premium stock coming through our Abu Dhabi sale.”
“We are also witnessing a migration of registered bidders from competitor auctions in the region. Our sales managers report no shortage of stock, and more importantly, consignors are choosing to sell with Euro Auctions because we are now seen as the trusted brand in the market.”
“Our strength and why consignors and buyers trust Euro Auctions is twofold. First, we are a truly global operation, able to move equipment to wherever market demand is highest and achieve the best prices for our consignors. That is clearly demonstrated in Abu Dhabi, where machines are arriving from both Europe and the USA. Secondly, for selected consignments, we are able to offer advance payments to vendors ahead of the sale, which is a testament to our belief in our ability to deliver strong returns.”
Middle East – Market Outlook
“As of April 2025, the used construction machinery sector in the Middle East is navigating a period of cautious optimism. While major infrastructure projects continue to fuel demand, fiscal caution and strategic reassessments are shaping market behaviour.”
“This climate has increased interest in used construction machinery, which offers cost-effective solutions without compromising on functionality. The rental market is also expanding, providing companies with flexible access to equipment without the need for major capital outlay.”
“Several key infrastructure initiatives are shaping demand for machinery in the region, including The Line, Oxagon, and Trojena in Saudi Arabia; the Riyadh Metro, which is the world’s longest driverless metro system at 176km; and major waste-to-energy plants and urban projects under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. These developments are driving demand for a wide range of machinery, particularly cranes and wheeled loaders.”
“The growth in equipment rentals is helping companies manage cash flow and reduce upfront investment, ideal for short-term or phased projects. We are also seeing a regional shift towards sustainable construction practices, with increased adoption of electric and hybrid machinery. Manufacturers are investing in environmentally friendly technology, and as a result, more used machinery is entering the secondary market. This is bringing additional supply into our Abu Dhabi auctions.”
“Overall, the outlook for the used machinery sector in the Middle East is positive, underpinned by continued infrastructure investment and a growing focus on sustainability. Even as project priorities evolve, the fundamental demand for construction equipment remains strong, creating significant opportunities in the used machinery market.”
“We continue to close the gap on our competitors, with the goal of making Euro Auctions, Abu Dhabi the premier heavy machinery auction site in the Middle East. With every sale, we attract new consignors who are turning away from competitor auctions to work with the Euro Auctions brand, as the live auction has mass market appeal.”
Euro Auctions next sale is in June and will highlight a top-quality consignment of new tools and accessories from leading brand names: “Also, for the June sale, we are expecting a quality consignment of Genie man-lifts arriving via Abu Dhabi in time for the auction. The catalogue will also feature good consignment of heavy machinery, including large Komatsu excavators and motor graders. There will be a number of new and unused excavators and backhoes in the catalogue.”
