XCMG says its new XGL3300-220S is the world’s tallest and largest luffing tower crane for wind power installation.
Developed by XCMG Machinery, the crane had been deployed at a large wind farm in northeast China.
According to the crane-maker, the crane has installed a 6.25MW wind turbine “flawlessly” and lifted a 97-meter-long turbine with precision.
At the construction site, the 3,300-ton-meter “Wind King” lifted a 150-ton nacelle to the height of 160 meters with unmatched speed, stability and accuracy completing the installation in a single, efficient operation.
The XGL3300-220S boasts a maximum lifting capacity of 220 tons and a lifting height exceeding 220 meters, which meets the installation requirements of 15MW-class turbines below 190 meters. It breaks the industry convention of lowering towers in strong winds with a design to operate safely in winds up to Level 6 in working and withstand Level 10 gales in non-operational states.
The high load-bearing capacity and wind resistance ensure uninterrupted operation in harsh conditions. It also achieves full-load lifting at a speed of 6 meters per minute at 220 meters, delivering millimeter-level precision and high-efficiency installation for wind turbines.
The compact XGL3300-220S can adapt to confined workspaces in challenging environments such as deserts and mountains.
It requires only a 30×65m site footprint for assembly and disassembly. The tower crane overcomes terrain limitations for distributed wind power projects and tackles ultra-high installation challenges in restricted spaces.
The crane supports large-component relocation, modular transport, block lifting, streamlined disassembly, transfer, and installation. In addition, the foundation-free, attachment-free, and standalone design significantly improves equipment utilization, reducing costs while boosting efficiency.
“The success of this inaugural lift marks not only a critical milestone for our project but also highlights the capability of China’s high-end lifting equipment in the renewable energy sector. It provides robust support for the large-scale, high-efficiency development of China’s wind power industry, accelerating the growth of green energy,” noted Liang Wenxi, driver of the project team for XGL3300-220S’s exceptional performance.
