Global maritime and dredging leader Boskalis has strengthened its heavy-lifting capability at its Central Distribution Center (CDC) in Vlaardingen with the addition of a new Tadano GR-1000EX-4 rough-terrain crane.
The new model replaces a Tadano GR-600EXL that had been in service for an impressive 23 years, continuing a long-standing partnership between the two companies. For more than two decades, the outgoing crane supported the CDC’s daily operations — lifting, positioning, and loading equipment ranging from small consumables to massive pumps, steel structures, and containers bound for Boskalis projects worldwide.
Handed over in early September by Richard Beenen, Tadano Sales Manager, the GR-1000EX-4 offers a significant performance upgrade, combining higher lifting capacity with advanced safety and operator-assistance systems. The machine features a 50.9-metre full-power main boom — the longest in its 100-tonne class — providing exceptional reach and flexibility while maintaining a compact footprint suited for yard operations.
Powered by a Cummins engine, the GR-1000EX-4 delivers enhanced lifting performance through additional counterweight and a redesigned structure that improves stability and control. Operator comfort and safety have also been prioritised, with innovations including a tilting cabin for improved visibility, and a side ladder that converts into steps for easier, safer access.
“Our previous Tadano crane served us reliably for more than two decades. That proven quality was one of the key reasons we chose Tadano again,” said Chris van Wijk, Logistics Manager at Boskalis. “With the GR-1000EX-4, we are confident we can continue to work safely and efficiently for many years to come.”
