XCMG and Sinopec Heavy Lifting & Transportation Co., Ltd. (SHLTC) have agreed to jointly develop the world’s first 14,000-ton circular rail crane, signalling a major step forward in China’s independent ultra-large lifting equipment technologies.
The signing marks a decade of collaboration between the two companies, who first formed their strategic alliance in 2015. Since then, XCMG and SHLTC have continuously pushed the boundaries of ultra-heavy lifting technology, achieving multiple industry breakthroughs and establishing new performance benchmarks for the global construction and engineering sectors.
Yang Dongsheng, Chairman of XCMG, described the partnership as “a model of powerful alliances and collaborative innovation within the industrial chain.” He added that the project sets a new paradigm for synergistic development across R&D, manufacturing, and application, strengthening China’s position in advanced engineering technologies.
At the heart of the new crane are two key innovations: Electric direct-drive technology, delivering over 30% energy savings and a 25% boost in operational efficiency; and a multi-functional “one machine, multiple functions” design, enabling flexible operation across large and small radii—ideal for complex applications such as chemical engineering and nuclear power projects.
The 14,000-ton circular rail crane will enable faster construction cycles, earlier commissioning, and improved ROI for major industrial projects.
“XCMG will continue to drive the in-depth localization of ultra-large engineering equipment and extend mature, reliable ‘China solutions’ to more engineering sectors,” said Yang. “By providing global clients with more efficient, safer, and energy-saving construction solutions, XCMG remains committed to contributing solid ‘XCMG power’ to the industry.”
