JCB has launched its largest X-Series tracked excavator to date at the Heavy Equipment Connect (HEC) Forum and Exhibition 2026, which was organised recently in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, by CPI Trade Media.
The event brought the top global equipment manufacturers and their major Middle East dealers together with customers and the broader construction sector of Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC region, and provided the apt platform and venue for JCB to launch its all-new 520X tracked excavator. The 52-tonne machine is the UK-headquartered brand’s largest excavator to date and aims to meet the needs of earthmoving, quarrying and demolition customers across the world.
JCB said that the 520X will be the first X-Series model to be sold globally and has been launched in a non-legislated emissions format in the Middle East.
Providing details on the machine during the launch at the HEC show, JCB revealed that the key features of the 520X include:
- Six-cylinder Cummins X12 diesel engine delivering 298kW (400hp)
- JCB CommandPlus cab with new JCB UX user interface
- Heavy-duty undercarriage and dig-end structure for ultimate durability and strength
- High pressure hydraulic circuit for maximum digging performance
- Proven X-Series DNA
Performance and power
According to JCB, the 520X takes its X-Series tracked excavator range into a new market segment, with an operating weight of 52-54 tonnes, depending on build specification. The machine can be configured with a standard 6.9 metre (m) boom for maximum versatility, or a 6.5m mass excavation boom for customers focused on the highest output.
A 2.55m or 3.0m heavy-duty dipper arm is available on the 6.5m mass excavation boom, while a 3.0m or 3.3m arm can be fitted to the 6.9m reach boom. Each is capable of handling buckets in the 2.8-3.4m3 range.
Maximum digging reach is 11.8m with the reach boom and longer arm, with a maximum digging depth of 7.8m. Maximum dump height is 7.5m, making the machine an ideal match for a range of dump trucks. The 520X boasts a dipper tearout force of up to 279kN, while bucket tearout is as high as 318kN.
The machine is powered by a Cummins X12 diesel engine. Designed to provide a strong power-to-weight performance, the X12 offers the response and power of a larger engine, while maximising fuel efficiency. The 11.8-litre engine delivers 298kW (400hp) at 1,800rpm, with a sturdy 1,969Nm of torque available at just 1,400rpm, providing plenty of low-down digging capability with minimal fuel consumption.
The engine drives twin variable displacement axial piston hydraulic pumps, producing a substantial 404 l/min each of hydraulic flow. The latest-generation Japanese hydraulic system has been tuned for maximum efficiency, with latest generation hydraulics, larger diameter pipework and a hydraulically-driven cooling fan reducing fuel consumption.

A dual slew motor system delivers competitive cycle times, for maximum digging and loading performance. The machine also boasts a heavy-duty undercarriage and reinforced dig-end structure, for reliable, robust operation. Customers can specify a wide range of double and triple grouser track pads, to suit their individual site conditions.
Operator control
All X-Series machines benefit from JCB’s spacious CommandPlus cab, which delivers next-level operator comfort and safety. Constructed with premium materials, the cab can be specified with a heated operator’s seat and the latest JCB UX user interface comes as standard. This incorporates a 10” full colour touchscreen monitor, that can be customised to suit the individual operator’s preferences. Operators can set bespoke hotkeys, to allow rapid access to regularly used functions.
JCB has introduced keyless start on the X-Series, with a short press of the button turning the display on or off. A longer press starts the engine, with a short press stopping it again. The monitor incorporates two trip settings, allowing improved analysis of fuel consumption and better machine use for machine owners. This monitor allows operators to create up to 25 user profiles, to save preferred customised lever and switch choices.

Safety features
The cab is ROPS certified as standard and features JCB’s 2-Go hydraulic isolation system, for increased safety in any application. A high-definition rear camera is fitted as standard and is seamlessly integrated into the new UX display, while standard LED lighting enables excellent visibility in all prevailing lighting conditions.
The 520X takes JCB into the heavy-duty construction, earthmoving and quarrying markets. Following an intensive development programme, the 52-tonne machine boasts the power, robust build quality and durability needed to compete in this sector.
