Komatsu’s intelligent Machine Control (iMC) system is now available with its D51i-24 and D61i-24 dozers, with the equipment giant introducing the iMC 2.0 system on the two models this month.
According to Komatsu, the proactive dozing control system enables productivity improvements of up to 60% compared to the previous generation on the 131hp and 168hp models respectively. The iMC 2.0 measures the terrain it tracks over and uses that data to plan the next pass, allowing less experienced operators to automatically cut/strip from existing terrain. Other automated features, such as lift layer control and tilt steering control, help improve efficiency on each pass.
According to Komatsu, the iMC system incorporates “a host of advanced, proprietary machine technology, to let contractors take advantage of productivity-enhancing automation and cutting-edge job-site design”.
“Operators — even those with limited experience — can work with utmost efficiency, guided by sophisticated automation,” said a statement from the company.
Among the benefits the new system offers is lift layer control, which automatically lets operators spread fill from existing terrain with the press of a button. The system also enables levelling of material even during rough dozing. The tilt steering control automatically tilts the blade to maintain straight travel during rough dozing, reduces operator steering input by up to 80%.
Operators can create a temporary design surface with the press of a button with quick surface creation. Komatsu said that combined with other iMC 2.0 functions, crews can begin stripping or spreading using automated input while waiting for the finish grade model.
“From automatic dozing, rough cut to finish grade, iMC-equipped Komatsu dozers help make every pass count for superior production compared to traditional aftermarket systems,” said the manufacturer.
