Ritchie Bros. claims it has achieved ‘outstanding results’ in its Super September 2024 campaign across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa with this success further cementing its position as a leading marketplace for used heavy equipment in these regions, particularly during the typically slow post-summer sales period.
In September, Ritchie Bros. hosted a series of seven unreserved online auctions that attracted thousands of motivated buyers from around the world, offering sellers an ideal platform to access international markets during a quieter sales season.
The Super September 2024 campaign set new records across the EMEA region as the company conducted seven online auctions — six in Europe and one in the UAE — drawing a total of 12,773 registrations from eager buyers.
Notably, 46% of these participants were from outside the host countries, highlighting the company’s global reach. In total, 12,554 heavy equipment lots were sold, with 5,552 lots purchased by international buyers and participation from 3,689 successful buyers.
The campaign saw several country-specific milestones. In Dubai, both buyer and seller participation reached a five-year record for September auctions. Spain experienced a 40% increase in buyers compared to the previous year, totaling 792, alongside a 19.5% increase in lots sold, which reached 2,114. Italy also reported growth, with an 11% rise in bidders, totaling 3,231 registrations, and a 9% increase in buyers, with lots sold increasing by 5% to 2,287. Ritchie Bros.’ auction in Meppen recorded the highest number of buyers (574) and lots sold (1,700) for a September auction in five years.
A key factor in the success of Super September was the unreserved online auction format, which allows buyers to participate without attending in person. This format offers greater accessibility and flexibility, enabling real-time bidding from anywhere, a significant advantage for international participants.
