Scania is set to showcase its latest innovations in electrified, hybrid, and zero-emission power solutions at Bauma 2025, aiming to significantly enhance sustainability and efficiency in the construction and mining sectors.
Bauma 2025 will mark the introduction of a fully-electric self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT), developed jointly by Scania and Italian specialist Cometto. Designed for heavy lifting operations in industries such as wind energy, aviation, space, and industrial plant relocation, the innovative trailer incorporates Scania’s electrification technology, delivering impressive torque, rapid charging capabilities, extended battery life, and emission-free operations.
“For over 50 years, Cometto has been at the forefront of special transport innovation,” commented Adrian Zingan, Cometto’s Product Manager. “Our partnership with Scania, trusted for decades for their diesel engines, now continues successfully into electrification. Scania’s integrated electric powerpacks ensure top-tier performance and efficiency.”
The first electric SPMT from the collaboration has already secured its inaugural customer: Mammoet, the world’s largest heavy-lifting company, will receive its unit shortly after Bauma.
Visitors to Scania’s stand will also experience the company’s complete, in-house-developed parallel hybrid solution. This system integrates an e-machine, inverter, batteries, internal combustion engine, and master control unit. Complementing these components are a cooling system, charging interfaces, mechanical connections, VCB cables, and essential auxiliary equipment.
Notably, Scania’s hybrid powertrain features an e-machine with an integrated clutch, allowing for seamless transition between hybrid and fully electric modes. This flexibility facilitates quiet, zero-emission operation, particularly beneficial for urban environments, while hybrid mode offers extended power and range.
