Nokian Tyres has launched a new size in its Ground Kare range. The 500/45-22.5 is available for 7–12-ton wheeled excavators and 5tn compact wheel loaders.
Nokian Tyres Ground Kare tyres help preserve the soil and provides comfortable and quiet road transport, according to the Finnish firm.
Its large contact area ensures good grip on various types of terrain with excellent stability. Nokian Tyres Ground Kare product line expands with the new 500/45-22.5 size for 7–12-ton wheeled excavators and 5tn compact wheel loaders.
“The Ground Kare tyres offer excellent puncture resistance thanks to their steel reinforcements. The wide block pattern provides a large contact area for good grip on a variety of surfaces. The tyres help prevent soil damage while providing excellent load carrying capacity. Thanks to the tread pattern and well-staggered tread blocks, they are also extremely quiet, comfortable and fuel efficient on the road”, says Teemu Vainionpää, Product Manager at Nokian Tyres.
The new size makes Ground Kare a suitable option for urban area contracting where compact and agile wheeled excavators and are popular.
The stability of Ground Kare tires makes them a good substitute for dual wheels. Ground Kare tyres do not have the typical problems of dual wheels, such as stones getting wedged between the tyres and causing disruptions. The new 500/45-22.5 size is directly compatible with machines using the 8.25-20 dual wheel assembly.
Sami Isomäki, who does excavator contracting around the Helsinki area in Finland, has relied on Ground Kare tyres for some time. Previously, his excavators were equipped with twin wheels, but experience has shown that Ground Kare tires support his work better.
“Previously, I had to rely on a tracked excavator in difficult terrain. Now, Ground Kare works well in places where twin wheels would have gotten stuck”, says Isomäki.
Nokian Tyres Ground Kare is available in sizes 600/40-22.5, 600/50-22.5, 650/45-22.5 and 710/40-22.5.
There are also sizes suitable for backhoe loaders, 620/60B30 and 620/60B34, including the special semi-slick variant for railway use in size 620/60B34. The new 500/45-22.5 size will complement the range in November 2025, available both as a tire and as complete wheel.
Nokian Tyres’ heavy-duty tires, treads and wheels have been awarded the Key Flag symbol and the Design from Finland mark, indicating that the products are manufactured in Finland and that the company has demonstrably invested in Finnish design.
