Global equipment giant Caterpillar has announced the launch of the Cat M320, its latest wheeled excavator model, which has an operating weight of 21.5 tonnes, an engine power output of 129kW, and is able to travel at 35km/h.
The new machine has been made available globally with compliance with emission norms in various markets, including in Middle East specs.
Announcing the launch, a statement from Cat said that customers today are demanding strong machine and job-site performance that helps lower operating costs and increase productivity, and the M320 is designed for construction, utility and road maintenance applications.
The new Cat M320 wheeled excavator also delivers enhanced ease of use, efficiency, stability and reduced operating costs, said Caterpillar.
“Going into the new M320 design, we had three major objectives – improve ease of use, increase performance and lower operating costs,” said Frederic Predemoiser, senior market professional for Caterpillar.

Operator environment and controls
The M320 cab is designed with controls that are easy to reach to help support operator comfort and capability. A high-resolution touchscreen monitor provides an intuitive interface to help operators maintain consistent performance throughout the workday.
The M320 also incorporates a new auto axle lock feature that automatically activates when the travel pedal is in neutral and the machine speed is near zero. A two-way travel pedal supports machine movement. Compared with the previous model, the M320’s long wheelbase helps improve stability.

Maintenance and safety
Cat M320 customers can achieve up to 17% lower maintenance costs compared with the previous design, helping reduce downtime and improve overall machine uptime.
Additional features include:
- Hydraulic filter features an increased 2,000-hour replacement interval and anti-drain valves
- Parts commonality with the 320 excavator
- Long greasing intervals
- Small cab pillars and large windows
- Optional right-side-view cameras
- In-cab swing lock helps prevent unintentional swing movement and allows the front linkage to be securely locked during machine travel

Increased efficiency
Powered by the Cat C4.4 engine, the M320 meets China Nonroad Stage IV and Brazil MAR-1 emission standards and emits equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIA. Automatic Engine Speed Control helps reduce fuel consumption by allowing the engine to enter idle mode when the machine is not working.
Extended maintenance intervals further support reduced downtime over the life of the machine.
The M320 can travel at speeds up to 35 km/h. Its advanced hydraulics system balances power and productivity while providing precise digging control. Auxiliary hydraulic options support a wide range of Cat attachments, with attachment commonality shared with the Cat 320 excavator
