Raimondi installs tower crane near Dubai’s busiest freeway

A Raimondi tower crane installed next to one of Dubai’s most visible thoroughfares is helping to build the sales office of one of the biggest developers in the Middle East.

The MRT 152 crane model from the Italian tower crane specialist was installed in just six hours by a team from the manufacturer at a site adjacent to Sheikh Zayed Road, where it is lifting steel, concrete and other materials as required to build a sales office building for developer Damac Properties.

According to Wael Hasan, Middle East commercial manager, Raimondi Cranes, the installation of the crane presented several challenges.

“The access to the jobsite was a challenge due to the main highway, Sheikh Zayed Road, on one side, and residential areas on the other. Visiting the site, you’ll notice that it’s situated in a very congested area with heavy traffic flow, and flanked by a number of high density residential developments. These residential communities resulted in having a very limited mobile crane radius,” explained Hasan.

However, at a width of 1.7m, the Raimondi MRT152’s GR3 tower adapts easily to urban environments, he added.

“The location meant that it required significant attention to site planning, together with obtaining specific permits from relevant authorities. We were able to complete this erection in only six hours including the full post-erection procedural assessment. We do this for each crane after erection prior to handing the jobsite over to the client,” Hasan said.

He added that the crane’s 1.7m-wide GR3 tower allows for accurate positioning on job-sites such as the one here and that the crane’s winches guarantee high speed and high load performance.

Contractor Dar Al Adham Constructions (DAAC) is building the structure, which includes two basements, a ground floor and two upper floors, with the crane scheduled to be operating onsite for approximately eight months.

“Situated on Sheikh Zayed Road, the crane’s Height Under Hook (HUH) is 38m. It’s fitted with the Raimondi Deluxe R16 crane cabin and equipped with a 52m jib. This can reach a tip load of 2.8t, more than satisfying this site’s needs,” said Hasan.

“To effectively service DAAC’s needs, Raimondi’s technical team completed the engineering specifications and site planning. We also executed a specialised training session for Dar Al Adham’s crane operators, highlighting the extensive benefits of the Deluxe R16 cabin to better allow them to make use of its advanced features and operator-centric characteristics.”
