Johnson Arabia has reported the successful execution of a complex lifting operation involving the installation of a glass panels onto the roof of a high-rise structure in Dubai’s JBR area.
In a statement, the heavy-lift, and crane and equipment rental specialist said that earlier this month, its team completed the lifting project with precision, executing a lift that needed planning and great caution due to the fragile nature of the load.
At the heart of this operation was a Liebherr LTM 1100-5.2 crane from Johnson Arabia’s fleet, a 100-ton all-terrain crane engineered for precision, versatility and performance in demanding environments.
The company said in its statement that it chose the Liebherr LTM 1100-5.2 “because it is known for its compact design combined with impressive lifting capacity”.
“This crane is particularly suited for urban and restricted job-sites. Its telescopic boom, capable of extending up to 60 metres, allowed our team to reach the rooftop glass installation point with ease, eliminating the need for additional equipment or repositioning,” the company added.
“Given the fragile nature of the glass panel and the complexity of the rooftop placement, detailed planning was critical. Prior to the lift, a comprehensive site and risk assessment was conducted, ensuring all environmental and operational factors were accounted for.

Precise lifting plan
“Our team developed a precise lifting plan, incorporating load calculations, crane positioning, and rigging methodology. Every team member was thoroughly briefed, reinforcing the importance of coordination, communication, and adherence to strict safety protocols.”
The lifting process was carried out with exceptional control and accuracy. From the secure attachment of lifting gear to the final positioning of each glass panel, every movement was executed with precision, said Johnson Arabia. The crane’s responsive controls, combined with the expertise of the operators, enabled smooth handling of the delicate materials, ensuring zero damage during installation, it added.
The Liebherr LTM 1100-5.2’s superior maneuverability and control allowed for minor adjustments during placement, which proved essential in aligning the panel perfectly within the designated rooftop structure.
“Despite the challenges posed by height, material sensitivity, and site constraints, the operation was completed ahead of schedule and without incident,” the statement concluded.
