Saudi Readymix has become the first company in Saudi Arabia to deploy a fully battery-electric wheel loader, marking a milestone in the Kingdom’s transition towards lower-emission construction equipment and demonstrating the growing viability of electric heavy machinery in demanding operating conditions.
Supplied by XCMG Saudi Arabia, the electric wheel loader has been operating successfully at Saudi Readymix facilities, where it has been tested in some of the region’s harshest working environments. According to XCMG, the machine has maintained reliable performance through the 2025 and 2026 summer seasons, withstanding temperatures exceeding 50°C while meeting the productivity requirements of ready-mix concrete operations.
The deployment is significant because it provides one of the first real-world demonstrations of battery-electric construction equipment operating under the extreme climatic conditions typical of Saudi Arabia. Concerns over battery performance, reliability and operating efficiency in high temperatures have often been cited as barriers to wider adoption of electric machinery in the region.
XCMG said the wheel loader has helped reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs compared with conventional diesel-powered machines, while maintaining the performance required for daily operations. The company added that the lower operating costs contribute to a more competitive total cost of ownership and a stronger return on investment for customers considering electric equipment.
The successful operation of the machine is expected to strengthen confidence in battery-electric construction equipment as contractors and fleet operators across the Kingdom seek to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency without compromising productivity.
