A new motor grader from Chinese equipment maker LiuGong has received the prestigious Red Dot Award for this year in the Product Design category.
The new 4180D grader was designed by LiuGong’s UK-based Industrial Design team, working in close co-operation with customers and operators to rethink the traditional grader, said the manufacturer.
“Visibility, operator comfort and ergonomics were quickly identified as the key areas of focus along with blade articulation and manoeuvrability,” said Gary Major, director of LiuGong’s Industrial Design unit.
The 4180D grader has 324-degree panoramic visibility owing to a five-post cab that has a single C-pillar.
The cab, which is a new design, is also said to set a higher benchmark for operator comfort and efficiency.
Recyclability and weight distribution have both been improved with the introduction of new, impact-resistant materials. Also, the new design further enhances access to routine maintenance spots resulting in reduced downtime.
The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the world’s largest design competitions. It saw entries from 55 countries for the 2019 edition, with designers and manufacturers submitting more than 5,500 products for the competition.
